The Nutcracker - A short story

This is a Christmas tree. Ella's watching it, her eyes glued closely to see the brightness of it and her friend Sally let his pigeons fly. We liked  to watch them dive and soar circles in the sky, birds eight to four, and never knowing why.

Now the next day it was Christmas, the real Christmas! Soon the guests came. Cousins, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles. Last to come was grandpa Joe. He brought extra presents for everyone and today was just fun! Ella opened her presents. One of them was a 'Nutcracker' Her younger brother Tom liked soldiers. Tom decided to have the soldier. He was feeling jealous about Ella's present. As Tom caught the leg of the Nutcracker, Ella realized that he was pulling it. In the tug of war struggle the poor Nutcracker's leg broke.

Grandpa Joe whispered a few magic words and  then said to Ella "Keep him by the fire, by 6.30 remember to take it with you."

Ella had such fun playing with her cousins that she forgot all about her Nutcracker. At night she woke up and said "Where's my Nutcracker?"

She went down and found him where she had left him off. Soon a group of mice gathered around him and the battle began. Now the king mice, bigger than a dog said to his slaves that the war is going on.

The war went on terribly, but only the soldier won. Now the king mice hadn't failed. Ella threw her slipper at the king mice. He fell down dead. The other mice gathered around him.

The Nutcracker said "it will take you to my friends palace!" So off they went. The Nutcracker and Ella flew through the sky by magic until they reached a place which Ella had never seen before.

A girl dressed up in pink, head to toe came out and said "Welcome to my palace. I'm the sugar plum fairy."

They watched people dance from all around the whole wide world. Once the show was finished the sugar plum fairy wrapped the nutcracker and Ella and put them in a very warm sleigh.

Ella was so sleepy that she slept on the nutcrackers shoulder. When she woke up it was morning, and she could hear the birds sing for Christmas eve.
