I woke up from my bed. My mum came
rushing and said “Down by the Meadows 6 place at the security gate, they are
selling some weird sort of mango treat for one crystal!” (In my dream crystals
were used as money).
My dad came into my room grinning. “Heard what mum said? Now get dressed young lady or we’ll miss those!”
My dad came into my room grinning. “Heard what mum said? Now get dressed young lady or we’ll miss those!”
So surprised at what was said I
got dressed and clambered downstairs. My mum and dad shoved me by the arm and
started to run. To my amazement, my legs started running along too, even if I
didn’t want them to. We soon reached, and yes indeed there was a pack of a
queue all pushing to be first in the line. My dad joined in and so did mumsie.
I caught a glimpse of someone eating the 'Mango Treat' and it just looked like
mango mashed hard into some slush. I felt like puking. But the weirdest thing
about them was that everybody’s was different bits and pieces.
“You really don’t have to buy this
for me, dad.” I whimpered to dad.
He took no notice of me and when
it was our turn he brought back a HUGE BULGING bag of mango slices.
“Now,” my mum went on, “As a
pleasant treat for you we’re swimming in the kiddy’s pool.”
I could only utter a startled cry.
What? Kiddy’s pool, with babies?
“Nooo..” I wailed.
But today my legs took control of themselves and dragged me to the Kiddy’s pool. Funnily enough the Kiddy’s pool was huge and didn’t seem small enough for a toddler. There was an icicle ring around, which meant we couldn’t swim in it just yet.
Suddenly a familiar looking woman
came up and asked, “Could we please have a slice or two of your mango? My
daughter has been starving for weeks and so have I.”
My dad replied “Why no. Why should
we give your old frothing daughter a single bit? You always ask.”
I looked to where the familiar
woman’s daughter was. She was sitting on the pool-steps, fat as could be. I
suddenly recognized her. “Its Aiysha.” I said to my delight. “Buffalo Aiysha!” I called out to her.
Fortunately Aiysha didn’t hear me. I realized later that probably she would
become a buffalo and gobble me up!
In the end my dad offered Aiysha’s
mum two slices of mango treat. Aiysha’s mum ran off to Aiysha saying “Here
darling, take a slice. This one’s for you and the other for me and..”
Aiysha grabbed both the slices and
stuffed them in her mouth. “YUM.” She replied, greedily.
“Mummy” she suddenly yelled, “Get
me more mangoes”. Aiysha’s mum rushed to us, running as if all was worth it.
But we rushed off to another step and sat next to some of my school friends. Then
the swimming thing started. I jumped in first along with somebody else.
“Hello old friend.” She exclaimed
“Well, this is a pleasant surprise I say, there’s Amani and the rest. How
lovely. Oh, I did miss you back there in England , Divina!”
I went to great Amani and the
other girls. Imogen then was showing a marvelous display of front crawl with
her face down in the water. Everybody applauded “I need a volunteer” she asked
the enthralled crowd of swimmers and onlookers. Everybody put their hand up,
but Imogen chose me.
“Face down in the water.” Imogen
commanded. “Hold my hand and swim Divina.” I did as I was told and in some
times practice I could do it wonderfully well.
Everybody else begged Imogen to teach
them. She picked Sophie Plumbridge and a few others. After a few minutes a
couple of girls got bored of this and did what they wanted to, breast-stroke,
free-style and practice the other strokes. All very soon this came to an end. I
hugged Imogen goodbye, thanked her for teaching me and went back home. I took a
short power nap on the sofa and after that sensed someone near at the door. I
opened the door and found a grey haired lady coming my way. I decided to be a
bit silly then and lifted up my shirt and shouted a few rude words at the lady.
She looked rather cross, so I headed quickly inside and into the study room
from where I could see this peculiar, uncomfortable old looking lady peering
outside the rectangle window. I prayed she could forget me and all the things I
just said to her. There was a green flash of smoke and the lady disappeared and
then appeared again in a most spooky way. She rang on the doorbell twice and
waited for an answer. My mum answered the door and pulled me up to this old person.
“The name is Madam Curie” the lady
replied with a beaming smile. “Divina, I’ve come to assist you with your
English.”
I glared at mum who was looking a
trifle pale. Why couldn’t she tell me this all before? What was the matter
practicing, before a day like this arrived?”
Madame Curie led me to the sofa.
“Do sit down.” She said. I felt like glaring at her too but didn’t. What right
did she have to barge into the house like this and offer me to sit down on my
own furniture?
“We are going to do definitions
today.” She announced to me, then carried on with the most weirdest words.
“One wrong.” She said with a
smile. “Just one. Poitaro means someone who carves a pot – a professional.”
Half of these words she made up, I
thought to myself. Who knows what words like Poitaro and Zancfus means? To my
great relief Madam Curie got up and…I WOKE UP..
**********
My dad had shouted at me and
startled me off this dream by yelling “Wake up time Divina. Breakfast served”
or something which usually meant “get yourself up and off that bed, lazybones!”
I hope you enjoyed the dream, and
I’m sure you enjoyed reading about greedy Aiysha. But you’ll have to promise NOT
to tell Aiysha any of this, will you?
